Christian Education Ministry

Members:

Currently there are eight members of our ministry but we are always looking for more. Those serving on this ministry are:

Sue Senft - Sue is a second grade teacher with the Middletown School District, she is a long-time member of the ministry and has served as a teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. Her educational experience is an invaluable resource for our ministry.

Carla Whitaker - Carla works as a legal secretary and has earned her Paralegal Degree. She is also a long time member of the ministry and teaches the 5th and 6th grade class and serves as co-superintendent of Sunday School. She is also the secretary for the ministry. Her compassion and love of children make her a great asset to our ministry.

April Trout - April has served on the ministry for the past several years. She is an obstetric nurse with the Hamilton Health Center. She helps to teach the Seekers Class, one of the adult classes that we offer. She has a great knowledge of all things religious and is a great addition to the ministry.

Molly Stanton - is a long time member of the ministry and has taught grades K - 5th grade and is currently teaching the confirmation class with Pastor Person. She is chairperson for the ministry and serves as co-superintendent of Sunday School. She is also the camping representative for our congregation. She is a full-time mother and homemaker currently learning how to transcribe text into Braille for her daughter and others in the community.

Lori Ulrich – is a recent addition to the ministry. She is a lawyer and she teaches the pre-K Sunday school class. Lori’s intelligence and great ideas are truly appreciated by all on the ministry.

Tracey Swetnam – recently joined our ministry as well. Tracey teaches the 3rd and 4th grade class. Her enthusiasm, kind heart, and love of children make her a great addition to our ministry.

Lisa Hand – is also a recent member of our ministry. Lisa works at Hershey Medical Center. She teaches the 1st and 2nd grade class with Marian Person. She is also an adviser for the youth group. She has a great sense of humor and is great with the kids.

Marian Person – is married to Pr. Jim Person. She works for Graystone Bank as a manager. She has a lot of energy and loves kids. She is extremely creative which is helpful for those of us on the ministry who are not.

Pastor Jim Person - Pastor Person is a recent addition to both the church and our ministry. He serves as our theological adviser and a teacher of the confirmation class. He brings great ideas to the ministry as well as a great sense of humor. His willingness to serve all of the children of God makes him a great addition to our ministry.

Ministry Info:

The Christian Education ministry is responsible for providing educational materials for all age levels in our church. We also organize Vacation Bible School and Congregational Day Camp in the summer. We provide funds for those young people who are required to attend Confirmation Camp in June so that they attend for free. We also provide funding for children who would like to attend resident camp at either Camp Kirchenwald or Camp Nawakwa. We are responsible for maintaining the audio/visual closets and their contents. We meet the second Wednesday of each month at 6:15p.m. in the church parlor.

Sunday School Classes Offered Each Week:

Nursery – Ages 0 – 3rys.

Pre-K, Kindergarten – Ages 4yrs. – 5yrs.

1st and 2nd – Ages 6yrs. – 7yrs.

3rd. And 4th – Ages 8yrs. – 9yrs.

5th and 6th – Ages 10yrs – 11yrs.

Confirmation – Grades 6-8 (children have the option to stay downstairs for 6th grade or move up to the confirmation class)

Senior High – Grades 9 – 12

Seekers Class – Adult, study contemporary issues

Gleaners - Adult, bible study

*St. Mark’s does have a child protection policy in place. All teachers and youth workers have been screened.
